Altaelva

Freecamp along the banks of the Alta river, one of the best salmon rivers in Norway.

The freecamp site is a super place to stay when visiting the Alta-area. Located only 16km outside Alta centrum. Alta is considered the northernmost city in the world with a population surpassing 10.000 (pop. in 2017 was 15.094 people)

The rock carvings at Alta, dating from c. 4200 BC to 500 BC, are on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. The carvings are made by the Komsa culture wich is named after the Komsa mountain in Alta municipality, where the first remains of this culture were discovered. You can find the carvings at (69.9472, 23.1860).

The Alta river flowing at the site is one of the best salomn rivers in Norway, known for its large-sized salmon. In older days, salmon up to 33 kilograms were recorded, and fish up to 24 kilograms are still caught.

Fishing license in the river can be purchased from Alta Laksefiskeri Interessentskap, but the licenses are sold in a limited number. Application for a license must be submitted early in the year and all licenses are sold during a draw. When buying a license, one gets an exclusive right to a fishing spot, and it is only allowed to fish with one rod at a time.

Idyllic freecamp site close to a sandy beach. Fantastic view over the ocean and the mountains in the background.

In the later years the area has been built up for recreation. Toilets and a large parking area. There are several opportunities along the road for freecamping if you have a smaller motorhome.

Storesand

Large grassy freecamping in connection to public recreational area.

Beautiful sandy beach, extremely popular in the summer months so you will not be alone on warm sunny days for shure! But the area has enough space for everyone.

The area was even as a commercial campsite but are now free for everyone to use, there are however NO facilities at the site.

Located in the small town Fevik near the town Grimstad. Fevik has a fantastic coastline with several nice beaches, rocky terrain and a terrain perfect for hiking.

Fevik has long boat builder traditions. From 1810 to 1890, wooden sailing ships were built and from 1890 to 1924 the industry focused on buiding of iron ships.

Jekthamna

Small freecamp site nearby cemetery.

Great views over the sea and a sandy white beach. Located at the northern part of the island Senja (The fairytale island) in the small fjord called Botnhamn. Senja is Norway’s second largest island. The anglers will like it in one of the small fishing villages where fishing is the way of life. Senja are surrounded by high mountains and the deep, blue Atlantic Ocean. The picture above are taken in Botnhamn at 2 am – beutiful midningt sun. You will find more freecamp sites at Senja in the book “Freecampers Guide to Norway”
